Mark and Christine Straughn — two retirees from Yorkville, Ill. — knew there would be trade-offs when they moved to Manteno in 2017 to be closer to their son and his family.
While Yorkville’s population is a little more than 16,000, it’s located just outside Aurora and Naperville, which have a combined 350,000 people. They knew Manteno was much smaller, with a population under 10,000, and further away from a larger urban center. They sensed the change immediately while shopping for a new home.
