Village Board Information
Members of the Village Board of Trustees are elected at-large for four-year, overlapping terms.
The Board President, the Mayor, is also elected for a term of four years. The Board of Trustees serves as the legislative body of the Village, adopting Ordinances and Resolutions which become Village law.
The Village President with the consent of the Board of Trustees is also responsible for appointing members to various advisory commissions including the Planning Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Police Commission, and Police Pension Fund.
Located in the Leo Hassett Community Center, 211 North Main Street.
Committee of the Whole (Workshop) meetings: The Finance Committee of the Whole and the Public Safety Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month; the Public Works Committee of the Whole and the Planning/Zoning Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month–check agendas for specific start times. Special meetings may be called at others times when necessary. All meetings are open to the public.
Mr. Nugent is serving his 5th term as the Mayor of Manteno. He was first elected in 2005. Mayor Nugent is the former owner of Manteno Lumber & True Value Inc. having sold the business in 2005. Mayor Nugent also served as a police officer in Kankakee County for 20 years, 12 years as a Deputy Sheriff and 8 years as the Chief of Police for the City of Kankakee.
Mayor Nugent holds a Bachelor Degree from Governors State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia. Mayor Nugent is currently the President/CEO of the Economic Alliance of Kankakee County, a public – private partnership that works to create jobs and expand the economic base by improving the local business climate.
Mayor Nugent was appointed by the Governor in 2015 to serve on the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. He also serves on the Boards of the local Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Kankakee County Enterprise Zone, Kankakee County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Kankakee County Salvation Army.
Mayor Nugent grew up on a farm just west of Manteno and other than the 8 years that he served as Chief of Police in Kankakee he has lived in the Village of Manteno his entire adult life. He is married to his wife Yvette and has 2 grown children, Casey Meier, a Manteno High School Art teacher and Mitchell, a Special Education teacher at Naperville North High School.
The Village Clerk is elected to serve a four year term and is the keeper of all official documents.
Ms. Batka was appointed to fill the unexpired Village Clerk position on December 18, 2017 and was elected in 2021 to the position. Ms. Batka is a lifelong resident of Manteno. She has served the Village Board previously as the Village Clerk and as a Village Trustee.
Ms. Batka is currently employed by Sears Holdings Corporation as a regional Human Resource Manager for their supply chain. She and her husband Bill have three children, Ryan Diedrich, who works for the Manteno School District, Robert Batka of Seattle, WA and daughter Alex Batka of Washington DC. Ms. Batka has previously served on the board for the Manteno Chamber of Commerce, Manteno Show Choir Boosters and a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers.
Mr. Boyce grew up in Evergreen Park, IL, but has been a Manteno resident since 2000. He and his wife, Jeanne, have two grown children, Bill and Michelle. Mr. Boyce is employed at Taylor Ford of Manteno as the General Manager. Mr. Boyce is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and is involved in the Manteno Chamber of Commerce. He has spent many years coaching youth basketball and baseball.
Mr. Boyce believes in giving back to his community both on a personal level and on a professional level as seen with the chairing of many dealership sponsored events in Manteno. Mr. Boyce was first elected as a Village Trustee in 2005. He is currently the chairman of the Public Works Committee.
Ms. Dole is a lifelong resident of Manteno. She was first appointed to the Village Board in 2005 to fill a vacant spot and then was elected in 2007. Ms. Dole is currently employed with HomeStar Bank as a Construction and Title Processor.
She and her husband, Jerry, have three children and six grandchildren. Ms. Dole is Chairman of the Public Safety and Health Committee. With her husband retired from the Manteno Fire Department; Diane’s interest and expertise in Public Safety have been lifelong endeavors.
Trustee Dole has been responsible for increasing cooperation among all public safety entities and has sponsored a number of cooperative ventures between the Police and Fire Departments.
Mr. Gesky was first elected as a Village Trustee in 2005 and serves as the Chairman of the Finance Committee. Mr. Gesky moved to Manteno in 2001 and has been an active member of the community ever since. He currently volunteers as a Varsity Football Coach for Manteno High School, as well as a board member for KCTC in Bradley. Mr. Gesky is a local State Farm Agent in Bourbonnais and owner of Cheap Storage Solutions in Manteno.
Mr. Gesky grew up in Oak Forest IL and went to Marist High School. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, were he was a member of the Cornhusker Football team from 1990-1994. Mr. Gesky is a member of St Joseph Church and Manteno Chamber.
Mr. Gesky is married to his wife, Dawn, who is a teacher’s aide at Manteno Elementary School. They have three children, Jeremy, Joshua, and Madelyn.
Mr. Phillips lived on the north side of Chicago, until he retired in 2002. After his retirement he and his wife, Laurel (recently deceased) moved to one of the senior communities in Manteno. Mr. Phillips was first elected as a village trustee in 2011.
Mr. Phillips has two daughters, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Phillips loves to play golf and states he “enjoys being able to help the people in Manteno any way he can.” Mr. Phillips serves as Chairman of the General Government Committee.
Mr. Boudreau is a lifelong resident of Manteno. He has been a high school social studies teacher for the last four years at Manteno High School. He is an active member of the school, through being the golf coach, working/annoucing games, and helping other clubs at Manteno High School. Mr. Boudreau was a 2016 graduate of Manteno High School. Trustee Boudreau hopes to connect the youth of Manteno to the village in a meaningful way.
Trustee Boudreau graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2020 with a B.S. in Poltiical Science with a license in teaching. He is currently getting his masters in history from Arizona State University. Mr. Boudreau has interned on the state and national government levels. Also, he is the current union president of Manteno Education Association and a member of the Board of Directors for the Illinois Education Association.
